Black tea Lemonade
Very fruity, clean coffee with a tea-like body. The cup is dominated by the strong acidity of lemon and redcurrant, which is balanced by the sweetness of dandelion honey and the light bitterness of black tea. On the filter, it's a juicy coffee with notes of butterscotch and black tea with lemon. On espresso, expect medium body, pleasant sweetness, intense acidity and notes of cherry, lemongrass, nougat and earl grey tea.
We always like to go back to our tried and true sources and coffees we've been happy with. That's why this is the third time we've featured coffee from the Bwenda processing station in the Southern Province of Rwanda! This station is run by Bernard Uwitije, who is in charge of a total of three such stations in the region and has been gathering experience since 2016. In Rwanda, a system of buying and processing in processing stations where the bought cherries are de-pulped, washed and dried is common, as the farmers themselves usually do not have the necessary equipment. Bwenda was established in 2019 by Rwanda Trading Company (RTC), a sister company of our importer Falcon Coffees. Falcon purchases all of its coffees from Rwanda through this organization. One of RTC's commitments is to educate farmers on sustainable agriculture, as well as the financial side of coffee production. Over 52,000 farmers have been through their training program since 2013 and of those, 1,600 use or have used Bwenda Station.
This time we have chosen a coffee that could be described as a typical representative of coffees from Rwanda - it is a variety of Red Bourbon processed by the washed method.
For a long time, only washed coffees could be exported from Rwanda in order to recover the investments made in the many mills that were built to support the coffee industry. That's why we often associate Rwandan coffees with this flavour profile that we love!
Roasted coffee beans, 100% specialty coffee Arabica, roasted and packed in the Czech Republic.
