Tropical & Spicy

This coffee will make your head spin! Maracaturra is an unusual variety whose taste immediately caught our attention. Expect a load of the strangest tropical fruit. The taste mixes fruity notes with spicy ones. The coffee has a milky texture, high sweetness and pleasant acidity. The filter is dominated by flavours of green mango, tamarillo, cocoa and durian. On the espresso, notes of marzipan, mango, nougat and pink pepper stand out.

Our next limited edition is again from Colombia, but the taste is something you haven't had before! The maracaturra variety is a hybrid between the typical caturra variety and the maragogype variety, which is characterised by its large beans and spicy flavour. 

This coffee comes from the Huila region, which is an absolute favourite for us! Two years ago we had the opportunity to visit the local farmers here in person and see the farms from which we select the coffee for you. The farm where this coffee was grown is called El Cedro and the founder is Henry Muñoz. Henry has been growing coffee since he was a young boy, helping out on his father's farm, and gradually fell in love with the profession. He started his own farm 15 years ago and currently works on it with his wife Monica. 

His farm covers just two hectares and their production currently includes only two varieties - pink bourbon and maracaturra. Both varieties are processed in the traditional way in order to preserve as much as possible the typical flavours of the varieties and the region. Henry is also beginning to experiment with planting new varieties and soil nutrition choices. His goal is to create a sustainable agriculture and a working business that he can pass on to future generations.

The lot we have chosen for you is a traditional washed maracaturra variety. After picking only the ripe cherries, the coffee is washed, stripped of impurities and defective beans and then left to ferment for 12 hours in the hopper of a wet mill. The cherries are then de-pulped and sealed in a tank. Here the beans are anaerobically fermented for 36 hours and then sun-dried for 15 to 24 hours. Thanks to this gentle process, we are able to appreciate the taste of the maracaturra variety itself, which is really worth it.

This coffee, full of contradictions and unusual flavours, is something we enjoy. We are always finding new flavours, which also change with the choice of preparation. If you are not afraid of new taste experiences, this is the coffee for you!
